"Dia De Los Muertos"

At Avalon Salon

Alchemia has long anticipated the opportunity of having an exhibit at Avalon - a community art space, conscious salon, & local art treasure! Alchemia artists present their unique vision and interpretation of the beautiful traditions celebrating the Latin America holiday honoring life after death.

The marriage of Alchemia and Dia de Los Muertos is a celebration of outsider and folk art images with its roots in a deeply meaningful tradition transcending both physical and spiritual boundaries. The images are striking, featuring Altars and offering gifts like hand-made loaves of bread, candles, and flowers to represent the tribal ancestry. Images of skeletons and playful sugar skulls are often depicted in brightly colored clothing and decorated with colorful designs and flowers.

In the spirit of love and friendship, our true connections often roost in the relationship we build with our ancestors by illuminating those who have passed, both revel and imagined, in the whimsy of Alchemia artists on canvas, clay, and paper, to touch on the deeper feelings of love, loyalty, and the impact of our daily lives.

Modern Dreamers

With their latest exhibit, Modern Dreamers, artists from the Alchemia program exhibit a powerful sense of color balance, texture, and bold strokes of the imagination. Each painting in this abstract collection encourages the viewer to question the relationships that exist between our internal and external environments, and to imagine an alternate space that exists on the periphery of those connections.

Alchemia invites you to view this extraordinary exhibit, which will be up in the gallery through the month of October.
